Just say, "Toonz Me!"I've always loved drawing people and my eclectic style ranges from simple line drawings to pop art, odd cartoon exaggerations to near-photo realistic portraits. My obsession with faces may or may not be related to the fact that I have a mild form of a condition known as face blindness, which makes it very difficult for me to recognize people by visual information alone. The proper term for this condition is prosopagnosia. When you think about it, having a caricature artist with face blindness is sort of like having a landscape painter who is color blind. Or a singer who is tone-deaf. But that makes for some interesting experiments in art! That is why I created the name "Toonz" instead of plain old caricatures; it is a chance to see yourself in cartoon form but slightly off...as a being from another planet might see you. Another way to look at this freeform style is to borrow a term from painting and dub it abstract impressionist. Either way, you'll probably have some fun with what you see.... Mostly, I try to have fun with live art. It gives participants the chance to be the star of their own little cartoon while I get to study faces. For anyone who wants to know the process of getting a likeness in a quick-draw environment, I will be happy to show you! And I'm a bit of a freak show all by myself and can be entertaining ...
